Ignore it if you have meat as well, they won't eat it and you'll still be able to sell it. Also, your characters may smell the fish go bad. Traps aren't necessary but fish traps are great for making more money when you sell them off. Always restore your character's stamina before fishing or hunting to maximize the catch. Stay overstocked on bullets and bait and toss it out when necessary, you should be able to keep plenty of food this way. A grueling pace will increase the risk of accidents but the physician should basically eliminate that problem, just keep them supplied with medicine. You'll reach your destination sooner while keeping morale high and extend the life of the wagon grease and your rations. Frail characters are at great risk of being killed if they suffer some sudden, serious injury, and they bleed stamina quickly. Avoid the "frail" attribute at all costs. Avoid the messy and pessimistic traits if possible since messy characters use up clothes quickly and put you at risk for illness, while pessimistic characters may become forlorn easily. As an added bonus, charming characters cook the best meals (if their Wayguiding is high). You can restart the game until you get your perfect party.Ĭharacter Attributes: One character must have the "charming" attribute for haggling. Party: The best party I've found consists of a Physician ( much higher chance of avoiding serious injury, allows you to travel at a constant grueling pace, negates the slack/dimwitted attributes somewhat, can also take care of oxen), a Mountain Man or Woman (best hunters, start with an extra knife), a Guide (ensures you don't get lost, can find oxen when they run away, they also randomly find useful items on the trail), and the third character usually doesn't do anything important so pick whoever you want. This is mainly for the "Oregon or Bust" journey but it's generally applicable.
